Houston L.E.A.D. ( is growing and we're adding additional events to our repertoire! With this in mind, we invite you to attend the Inaugural Houston L.E.A.D. Luncheon with special guest speaker Darrin Straughan, President of James Coney Island. Come hear his success story, advice for business professionals about growing and managing a successful enterprise and also come meet other Houston L.E.A.D. members and guests!

Katch 22 is a joint effort of Luke Mandola and former Houston Astros great Roger Clemens. This is a great venue and we will have the private room there.

About our speaker:

Darrin Straughan is fast-approaching three decades as a veteran of the restaurant industry. Texas born, raised and educated – he attended the University of Houston on a football scholarship and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and swiftly accepted a position with Arthur Anderson to specialize in auditing the hospitality and restaurant industry. 

During his professional career, Darrin worked as Controller for Texas Tumbleweed Restaurants and Head of Marketing and Franchise Operations with The Kettle Corporation – a 211 unit 24-hour restaurant chain. In 1993, he accepted a position with a privately-held, fast-casual restaurant chain in Houston known as James Coney Island where he has worked for the past 20 years as President.

Professional affiliations include a position as Past President of the Greater Houston Restaurant Association and Board Member of the Greater Houston Restaurant Association and Mexican Restaurants, Inc. In 1996, The Texas Restaurant Association recognized Darrin with the Outstanding Restaurateur Award. He’s a Lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for his involvement with the Special Children’s Committee and is active in civic organizations within his community.

Darrin’s true passion and commitment continues to exist in the day-in, day-out dedication involved in keeping a 90 year old chain relevant in the challenging, ever-changing industry of today.
